smotelIn the seminar „English Language Drama On Magdeburg Stages“ we, students of the English department, had to analyze the play „The End of Civilization“ and had to present our results to the course. This was done firstly through just analyzing the written play and then also considering the actual play we had seen on stage with wonderful support by the responsible dramatic adviser.

As we were fascinated by the way George F.Walker plays with his characters and uses such – especially nowadays   every day topics, we were strongly interested how the other plays in his book „Suburban Motel“ are designed. Hence, we decided to also consider the other five plays and present our results on this website.

The questions of what the plot in every single play looks like, what details and interesting aspects we figure out while also using pictures of the plays which we found on the internet to get into a much more detailed analysis of the pieces, were one of the main areas we dealt with.

The first page „George F.Walker“ gives a short overview about the author including a list of all his other works. By clicking the button „The plays“ you will find an overview of all six plays and one can jump to every single one to receive more information on the dramatic piece. On the main page of the plays we tried to find similarities between all six plays and developed an idea of why the whole book is actually called „Suburban Motel“. Some cases which took place in Germany with similar backgrounds, are to be found under „Actual Cases“. We furthermore decided to also present what a Motel actually is and added some pictures of „Motels in the US“. Using the „Links“ will give you more pages with more details about the topic.
